Walking the Talk

“Character is higher than intellect. A great soul will be strong to live as well as think.” Ralph Waldo Emerson –

Walking the talk as leaders seems to be more of a buzz phrase anymore than what is actually lived by many leaders. Why? Because it is hard. If it were easy, anyone could be a great leader but we all know great leaders are like the majestic Bald Eagle, we usually find them not grouped up but one at a time. Great leaders separate themselves from the pack by living the words that they utter. It’s like breathing to them. They mean what they say and say what they mean. You always know where they stand and where you stand with them.

In my new book, “The Corporate Soul Handbook” I devote an entire chapter to the need for healthy organizations to be led by leaders who walk the talk. Leaders of organizations with a healthy corporate soul speak with words that are hallowed not hollow. When they speak, their followers can bank on what they say is the truth or they know their leader will do everything humanly possible to make it so. Those that follow them are inspired to support them and the organization they serve because they trust them. Again, truth builds trust. Trust builds relationships and strong relationships leads to everyone pulling on the rope at the same time in the same direction.

If you are a leader and aspire to be a great leader please live what you say… all the time. People are watching. If you are reading this and feel you are not a leader, you are wrong. You do not have to be a title to be a leader. Those next to you on your team are watching you. Your family is watching you…. all the time. Make sure your words are hallowed not hollow. You, your team and your family will be much better because of it.

In closing, the shoes in the picture above are actually my wife’s and mine after our trip to Israel this past Fall. We walked in the footsteps of leaders like Joshua, King David, King Solomon, The Apostles and Jesus. It was an honor to walk in the footsteps of great leaders who spoke from the heart, walked the talk and left a legacy for all of us to follow. You will have a legacy too. It will be through your actions not just your words.

Until next time, peace.
